Franco Fun Festival: much more than a rehearsal!

A hundred VW Fun Cup will venture to the Raidillon this weekend as part of the Franco Fun Festival. The eight-hour race on Sunday is the third round of the VW Fun Cup powered by Hankook and is much more than a preparation for the Hankook 25 Hours VW Fun Cup!

After Mettet and Magny-Cours, the VW Fun Cup powered by Hankook will be heading for the Belgian Ardennes and the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the third round of the season this weekend. The Franco Fun Festival also counts for the French competition, so more than a hundred VW Fun Cup will race on the famous track, 52 of which are registered in the Belgian championship. It makes this competition a dress rehearsal for the Hankook 25 Hours VW Fun Cup, but also a crucial confrontation in the hunt for the different titles!

There was quite something new to pick up for the third appointment of this season, with the return of Tom Boonen on the # 415 of Clubsport Racing (with Johan Huygens and Marnik Battryn), or the presence of the Belgian Rally Champion 2005, Xavier Bouche, deployed on the # 404 M3M with Luc Bouchat and Timo Van Impe. Furthermore, watch out for the # 421 DDK Racing, on the stage of the 25 Hours VW Fun Cup in 2016 under the name Mega Fun Team. With Pierre-Yves Corthals, WTCR driver Yann Erlacher, Claude Pirson and Stéphane Boulanger we find four again that could sometimes break pots.

A third winner in three races?

For the victory, we must go to the title candidates! Thanks to his success in Magny-Cours, Allure Team has taken the lead in the championship with the # 277. The Liège team, four-time winner of the 25 Hours, will find its favorite playing field together with Cédric Bollen, Sébastien Kluyskens and Gilles Debrus. The intention is of course to deepen that bonus!

But the battle promises to be very intense for eight hours, including the two cars of Jac Motors, on the - very provisional - podium of the championship. Michaël Leenders, Laurent Jaspers and Hubert Bauthier won in Mettet and of course want to start again with the victory in the # 44, while the trio Mathieu Detry-Sébastien Incardona-Stéphane Perrin (# 269) is still looking for his first victory.

That finding also applies to the # 2 DRM Autographe by Gilles Smits, Amaury Richard and Stéphane Lémeret. Can the return of the latter two, absent from the Nièvre, yield the first prize for the first time? The ambitions of the Brussels team are clear!

However, the biggest threat to Allure Team can come from the Socardenne by Milo camp. After an unbelievable breakdown weekend in Mettet, the men of Christophe Nivarlet placed two cars on the podium in Magny-Cours. After the traditional drawing of lots to determine the compositions, three more feared trios were formed. Kevin Balthazar, Logan Jadot and Tom Rensonnet are at the wheel of the # 149, Kevin Caprasse, Christophe Nivarlet and Matteo Raspatelli are racing with the # 280 and Lorenzo Donniacuo, Giovanni Scamardi and Benjamin Kaivers are coming out on the # 289.

Also watch out for two teams that had little luck in Magny-Cours: the # 426 Acome Racing (Pierre Piron-Gilles Piron-Martin Leburton) and the # 499 DRM Art Blanc Tourneur (Guillaume Mondron-Emile De Dryver-Simon Tourneur). In addition, we also keep an eye on the # 777 Allure Team (Julien Branne-Frédéric Bouvy-Marc Van Cutsem-Jean-François Olivier). They too can aspire to a leading role in an eight-hour competition and it is therefore certain that the debates will once again become very unpredictable!

Fun and Pure: nail biting!

The victory battle in the Fun category (that for teams without a Top Gun rider) also promises to become explosive. Even without a victory, the # 278 Acome Racing (Manu Nava-David Doutrepont-Stéphane Charlier-Anthony Rosa) is currently the leader in the standings. Behind it we see the # 406 of 8Ks Corse Warner Experience (Andrea Portatadino-Giedo Krieg-Federico Sordini-Gabrielle Torelli), who won in Magny-Cours, and the # 415 Clubsport Racing (Johan Huygens-Marnik Battryn-Tom Boonen), winner in Mettet.

Some other Fun participants deserve the necessary attention, such as the # 219 CG Racing (William Godefroid-Anthony Lambert), the # 291 Comtoyou Racing (Maxime Lieutenant-Dominique Bustin-Gilles Verleyen-Tristan Földesi) or the # 65 Leader Racing (Nygel Verhaeren-Paul Theysgens-Mardeen Benjamin).

In the Pure classification (for drivers with only the VW Fun Cup as experience) the # 278 Acome Racing also leads the Nava-Doutrepont-Charlier-Rosa, as this team competes in both categories. That trio does better than the reigning champions of the # 255 DZ Racing by Acome (Jean-Luc Vandormael-Amine Zeghouani-Sébastien Dorkel) and the # 281 ACM Cash Converters (Geert Windels-Benoit Arnaudet-Sébastien Morel-Arnaud Quédé).

Two cars fight a duel in Evo2, the class for diesel cars. The # 227 JUSI Racing (Kurt Heirman-Kris Van Bael-Diederick Ceyssens-Jurgen Vermeulen) is in the lead in the scoring and will have to resist the # 254 SGRT.be (Yehann De Wachter-Raphael Makowczinski-Louis Pastijn-Jurgen Knockaert -Jorn Nails).

Biplaces: Monster Trendy by Milo at the top of the poster

With two victories, the # 342 Monster Trendy by Milo naturally leads the Biplace championship. Éric Jardon and Francis Plunus are back at the wheel of "their" VW Fun Cup Biplace after the absence in Magny-Cours. The duo will be strengthened for Manuel Martin to win a third victory, while the twelve registered teams are also thinking about the preparation of the 25 Hours.

The reigning champions of the # 365 Carpass by DRM are 15 points behind. The championship is still long, especially with the essential appointment of the 25 Hours, but Edouard de Braekeleer, Miguel Coppieters and Philippe Reynens are counting on their road captain Stéphane Lémeret, back home, to score important points together.

We see the # 364 CG Racing (Maxime Musin-Jean Pierre Vanderfeesten-Sébastien Biélande), the # 360 CBRS by Milo (Alain Dupont-Michel King-Philippe Fisette), the # 330 Lisalux Racing (Stéphane Loesel-) Maxime Lacrosse-Marc Bogaert-Alexandre Camp-Christophe Folny-Paul Lefebvre-Lucien Bourdeaux), the # 378 Acome Racing (Manu Nava-Alexandre Charlier-Erik The Batselier-Bernard Dance) or the # 361 Credeco by Leader (Philippe Denis-Edouard Chevalier-Norbert Camara-Quentin Denis). The # 375 Michaël Mazuin Sport (Camille Mazuin-Louis Mazuin-Antoine Potty-Michaël Mazuin-Damien Dupont) was finally on the podium in Magny-Cours and will certainly play a role, even though that car has not yet taken a single passenger with it. and so no points scored yet.

Sunday, after a Formula VW race and a short starting procedure, the light turns green at 9.55 am for an eight-hour race. Seeing the imposing platoon of a hundred VW Fun Cup storming the Raidillon will undoubtedly be an impressive spectacle.

Franco Fun Festival: veel meer dan een generale repetitie!

Een honderdtal VW Fun Cup wagen zich komend weekend aan de Raidillon in het kader van het Franco Fun Festival. De wedstrijd over acht uur op zondag vormt de derde manche van de VW Fun Cup powered by Hankook en is veel meer dan een voorbereiding op de Hankook 25 Hours VW Fun Cup!

Na Mettet en Magny-Cours trekt de VW Fun Cup powered by Hankook komend weekend richting de Belgische Ardennen en het Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps voor de derde manche van het seizoen. Het Franco Fun Festival telt eveneens mee voor de Franse competitie, en dus zullen meer dan honderd VW Fun Cup racen op de beroemde piste, waarvan 52 ingeschreven in het Belgische kampioenschap. Het maakt van deze wedstrijd een generale repetitie voor de Hankook 25 Hours VW Fun Cup, maar ook een cruciale confrontatie in de jacht op de verschillende titels!

Er viel best wat nieuws te rapen voor de derde afspraak van dit seizoen, met de terugkeer van Tom Boonen op de #415 van Clubsport Racing (met Johan Huygens en Marnik Battryn), of de aanwezigheid van de Belgisch Rallykampioen 2005, Xavier Bouche, ingezet op de #404 M3M met Luc Bouchat en Timo Van Impe. Verder is het uitkijken voor de #421 DDK Racing, op het podium van de 25 Hours VW Fun Cup in 2016 onder de naam Mega Fun Team. Met Pierre-Yves Corthals, WTCR-rijder Yann Erlacher, Claude Pirson en Stéphane Boulanger vinden we een viertal terug dat weleens potten zou kunnen breken.

Een derde winnaar in drie races?

Voor de zege moeten we vooral terecht bij de titelkandidaten! Dankzij zijn succes in Magny-Cours heeft Allure Team de leiding in het kampioenschap overgenomen met de #277. Het Luikse team, viervoudig winnaar van de 25 Hours, vindt samen met Cédric Bollen, Sébastien Kluyskens en Gilles Debrus zijn favoriete speelterrein terug. De bedoeling is uiteraard om die bonus uit te diepen!

Maar de strijd belooft acht uur lang erg intens te worden, onder meer met de twee wagens van Jac Motors, op het – erg voorlopige – podium van het kampioenschap. Michaël Leenders, Laurent Jaspers en Hubert Bauthier wonnen in Mettet en willen natuurlijk weer aanknopen met de zege in de #44, terwijl het trio Mathieu Detry-Sébastien Incardona-Stéphane Perrin (#269) nog op zoek is naar zijn eerste overwinning.

Die vaststelling geldt ook voor de #2 DRM Autographe van Gilles Smits, Amaury Richard en Stéphane Lémeret. Kan de terugkeer van die twee laatsten, afwezig in de Nièvre, een eerste keer de hoofdprijs opleveren? De ambities van het Brusselse team zijn in ieder geval duidelijk!

De grootste bedreiging voor Allure Team kan echter uit het kamp van Socardenne by Milo komen. Na een onvoorstelbaar pechweekend in Mettet, plaatsten de mannen van Christophe Nivarlet twee wagens op het podium in Magny-Cours. Na de traditionele lottrekking om de samenstellingen te bepalen, werden er opnieuw drie te duchten trio’s gevormd. Kevin Balthazar, Logan Jadot en Tom Rensonnet zitten aan het stuur van de #149, Kevin Caprasse, Christophe Nivarlet en Matteo Raspatelli racen met de #280 en Lorenzo Donniacuo, Giovanni Scamardi en Benjamin Kaivers komen uit op de #289.

Opgepast ook voor twee teams die weinig meeval kenden in Magny-Cours: de #426 Acome Racing (Pierre Piron-Gilles Piron-Martin Leburton) en de #499 DRM Art Blanc Tourneur (Guillaume Mondron-Emile De Dryver-Simon Tourneur). Daarnaast houden we ook de #777 Allure Team (Julien Branne-Frédéric Bouvy-Marc Van Cutsem-Jean-François Olivier) in het oog. Ook zij kunnen een hoofdrol ambiëren in een wedstrijd van acht uur en het staat dus vast dat de debatten eens te meer erg onvoorspelbaar worden!

Fun en Pure: nagelbijten!

De zegestrijd in de Fun-categorie (die voor teams zonder Top Gun-rijder) belooft evenzeer explosief te worden. Ook zonder overwinning bezet de #278 Acome Racing (Manu Nava-David Doutrepont-Stéphane Charlier-Anthony Rosa) voorlopig de leidersplaats in de tussenstand. Daarachter zien we de #406 van 8Ks Corse Warner Experience (Andrea Portatadino-Giedo Krieg-Federico Sordini-Gabrielle Torelli), die won in Magny-Cours, en de #415 Clubsport Racing (Johan Huygens-Marnik Battryn-Tom Boonen), winnaar in Mettet.

Enkele andere Fun-deelnemers verdienen de nodige aandacht, zoals de #219 CG Racing (William Godefroid-Anthony Lambert), de #291 Comtoyou Racing (Maxime Lieutenant-Dominique Bustin-Gilles Verleyen-Tristan Földesi) of de #65 Leader Racing (Nygel Verhaeren-Paul Theysgens-Mardeen Benjamin).

In het Pure-klassement (voor rijders met alleen de VW Fun Cup als ervaring) leidt de #278 Acome Racing de Nava-Doutrepont-Charlier-Rosa eveneens de dans, aangezien dit team uitkomt in beide categorieën. Dat drietal doet beter dan de regerende kampioenen van de #255 DZ Racing by Acome (Jean-Luc Vandormael-Amine Zeghouani-Sébastien Dorkel) en de #281 ACM Cash Converters (Geert Windels-Benoit Arnaudet-Sébastien Morel-Arnaud Quédé).

Met twee zeges leidt de #342 Monster Trendy by Milo uiteraard het Biplace-kampioenschap. Éric Jardon en Francis Plunus zijn er weer bij aan het stuur van ‘hun’ VW Fun Cup Biplace na de afwezigheid in Magny-Cours. Het duo wordt versterkt voor Manuel Martin om een derde zege in de wacht te slepen, terwijl de twaalf ingeschreven teams verder ook denken aan de voorbereiding van de 25 Hours.

De regerende kampioenen van de #365 Carpass by DRM telt een vijftiental punten achterstand. Het kampioenschap is nog lang, vooral met de essentiële afspraak van de 25 Hours, maar Edouard de Braekeleer, Miguel Coppieters en Philippe Reynens rekenen wel op hun wegkapitein Stéphane Lémeret, terug van weggeweest, om samen belangrijke punten te scoren.

Als scherprechters van dat duel zien we de #364 CG Racing (Maxime Musin-Jean Pierre Vanderfeesten-Sébastien Biélande), de #360 CBRS by Milo (Alain Dupont-Michel Koning-Philippe Fisette), de #330 Lisalux Racing (Stéphane Loesel-Maxime Lacrosse-Marc Bogaert-Alexandre Camp-Christophe Folny-Paul Lefebvre-Lucien Bourdeaux), de #378 Acome Racing (Manu Nava-Alexandre Charlier-Erik De Batselier-Bernard Dans) of de #361 Credeco by Leader (Philippe Denis-Edouard Chevalier-Norbert Camara-Quentin Denis). De #375 Michaël Mazuin Sport (Camille Mazuin-Louis Mazuin-Antoine Potty-Michaël Mazuin-Damien Dupont) stond tot slot op het podium in Magny-Cours en zal dus zeker een rol spelen, ook al heeft die wagen nog geen enkele passagier meegenomen en dus nog geen punten gescoord.

Zondag, na een race van de Formule VW en een korte startprocedure, springt het licht om 9.55 uur op groen voor acht uur wedstrijd. Het imposante peloton van een honderdtal VW Fun Cup de Raidillon zien bestormen, wordt ongetwijfeld een indrukwekkend spektakel.

Une grosse centaine de VW Fun Cup prendront d’assaut le Raidillon ce week-end à l’occasion du Franco Fun Festival. Troisième épreuve de la VW Fun Cup powered by Hankook, la course de 8 heures programmée ce dimanche sera bien plus qu’une simple répétition avant les Hankook 25 Hours VW Fun Cup !

Après Mettet et Magny-Cours, la VW Fun Cup powered by Hankook met le cap vers les Ardennes belges et le Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps ce week-end pour le troisième rendez-vous de la saison. Le Franco Fun Festival comptant également pour la compétition française, plus de cent VW Fun Cup en découdront sur le célèbre toboggan des Ardennes, dont 54 voitures engagées dans la compétition belge. De quoi faire de cette étape une répétition générale avant les Hankook 25 Hours VW Fun Cup, mais aussi une épreuve capitale dans la chasse aux différents titres mis en jeu !

Parmi les nouveautés de ce rendez-vous, on notera le retour de Tom Boonen sur la #415 de Clubsport Racing (avec Johan Huygens et Marnik Battryn) ou la présence du Champion de Belgique des Rallyes 2005, Xavier Bouche, engagé sur la #404 M3M avec Luc Bouchat et Timo Van Impe. Et puis, attention à la #421 DDK Racing, montée sur le podium des 25 Hours VW Fun Cup en 2016 sous le nom de Mega Fun Team. Avec Pierre-Yves Corthals, le pilote WTCR Yann Erlacher, Claude Pirson et Stéphane Boulanger, on retrouvera au volant un quatuor qui risque de faire mal.

Un troisième vainqueur en trois courses ?

Pour la victoire, il faudra avant tout se tourner vers les candidats au titre ! Grâce à son succès à Magny-Cours, l’équipe Allure Team a repris la tête du championnat avec la #277. Déjà quatre fois lauréate des 25 Hours, la formation liégeoise retrouvera son terrain de chasse favori avec Cédric Bollen, Sébastien Kluyskens et Gilles Debrus. Et elle entend bien accentuer son avance dans le classement provisoire !

Mais, huit heures durant, la lutte sera plus intense que jamais avec notamment les deux voitures de Jac Motors, sur le podium – très provisoire – du championnat. Lauréats à Mettet, Michaël Leenders, Laurent Jaspers et Hubert Bauthier entendent bien retrouver le chemin de la victoire avec la #44 pendant que le trio Mathieu Detry-Sébastien Incardona-Stéphane Perrin (#269) est toujours à la chasse de son premier succès.

La remarque vaut aussi pour la #2 DRM Autographe de Gilles Smits, Amaury Richard et Stéphane Lémeret. Le retour des deux derniers, absents dans la Nièvre, permettra-t-il à cet équipage de viser de nouveau la victoire ? On l’espère au sein de la formation bruxelloise !

La plus grande menace pour l’équipe Allure Team pourrait toutefois venir de la formation Socardenne by Milo. Après avoir rencontré une incroyable malchance à Mettet, les hommes de Christophe Nivarlet ont placé deux voitures sur le podium de Magny-Cours. Suite au traditionnel tirage au sort pour déterminer les équipages, ils formeront de nouveau trois redoutables trios. Kevin Balthazar, Logan Jadot et Tom Rensonnet seront au volant de la #149, on retrouvera Kevin Caprasse, Christophe Nivarlet et Matteo Raspatelli sur la #280 et Lorenzo Donniacuo, Giovanni Scamardi et Benjamin Kaivers se partageront la #289.

Attention aussi à deux équipages pas vraiment gâtés par la chance à Magny-Cours : la #426 Acome Racing (Pierre Piron-Gilles Piron-Martin Leburton) et la #499 DRM Art Blanc Tourneur (Guillaume Mondron-Emile De Dryver-Simon Tourneur). Et puis, on tiendra à l’œil le retour de la #777 Allure Team (Julien Branne-Frédéric Bouvy-Marc Van Cutsem-Jean-François Olivier). Tous ceux-là peuvent aussi revendiquer un rôle en vue au terme de ces 8 heures de course et il est donc clair que la lutte sera une fois encore très indécise !

Fun et Pure : chaud devant !

La bagarre pour la victoire dans la catégorie Fun (celle des équipages n’ayant pas de pilote Top Gun) aussi promet d’être explosive. Même sans être montée sur la plus haute marche du podium, l’équipe #278 Acome Racing (Manu Nava-David Doutrepont-Stéphane Charlier) mène le classement provisoire du championnat. Derrière elle, on retrouve la #406 de 8Ks Corse Warner Experience (Andrea Portatadino-Giedo Krieg-Federico Sordini-Gabrielle Torelli), qui s’est imposée à Magny-Cours, et #415 Clubsport Racing (Johan Huygens-Marnik Battryn-Tom Boonen), lauréate à Mettet.

Quelques équipages engagés en Fun méritent aussi d’être suivis de près : la #219 CG Racing (William Godefroid-Anthony Lambert), la #291 Comtoyou Racing (Maxime Lieutenant-Dominique Bustin-Gilles Verleyen-Tristan Földesi) ou encore la #65 Leader Racing (Nygel Verhaeren-Paul Theysgens-Mardeen Benjamin) sont de ceux-là.

Notons que dans le classement Pure (les pilotes qui n’ont que la VW Fun Cup comme expérience), c’est aussi la #278 Acome Racing de Nava-Doutrepont-Charlier-Rosa qui mène la danse, cet équipage étant éligible dans les deux classements. Ce trio devance les champions en titre de la #255 DZ Racing by Acome (Jean-Luc Vandormael-Amine Zeghouani-Sébastien Dorkel) et la #281 ACM Cash Converters (Geert Windels-Benoit Arnaudet-Sébastien Morel-Arnaud Quédé).

Deux voitures seront de nouveau engagées en Evo2, soit les mécaniques diesel. En tête du championnat, la #227 JUSI Racing (Kureirman-Kris Van Bael-Diederick Ceyssens-Jurgen Vermeulen) tentera de résister aux assauts de la #254 SGRT.be (Yehann De Wachter-Raphael Makowczinski-Louis Pastijn-Jurgen Knockaert-Jorn Nagels).

Biplace : Monster Trendy by Milo en point de mire

Avec deux victoires, la #342 Monster Trendy by Milo mène bien évidemment le championnat Biplace. Après s’être faits remplacer à Magny-Cours, Éric Jardon et Francis Plunus retrouveront le volant de « leur » VW Fun Cup Biplace. Le duo sera rejoint par Manuel Martin pour viser la passe de trois, avec en toile de fond la préparation des 25 Hours pour la douzaine d’équipages inscrits.

Tenante du titre, la #365 Carpass by DRM compte une quinzaines de points de retard. Si le championnat est encore long, surtout avec l’étape essentielle des 25 Hours, Edouard de Braekeleer, Miguel Coppieters et Philippe Reynens compteront sur leur « capitaine » Stéphane Lémeret, de retour après son absence à Magny-Cours, pour engranger de gros points.

Pour arbitrer ce duel, on retrouvera notamment la #364 CG Racing (Maxime Musin-Jean Pierre Vanderfeesten-Sébastien Biélande), la #360 CBRS by Milo (Alain Dupont-Michel Koning-Philippe Fisette), la #330 Lisalux Racing (Stéphane Loesel-Maxime Lacrosse-Marc Bogaert-Alexandre Camp-Christophe Folny-Paul Lefebvre-Lucien Bourdeaux), la #378 Acome Racing (Manu Nava-Alexandre Charlier-Erik De Batselier-Bernard Dans) ou la #361 Credeco by Leader (Philippe Denis-Edouard Chevalier-Norbert Camara-Quentin Denis). Monté sur le podium à Magny-Cours, la #375 Michaël Mazuin Sport (Camille Mazuin-Louis Mazuin-Antoine Potty-Michaël Mazuin-Damien Dupont) aura aussi son mot à dire, même si cette voiture n’a pas encore marqué de points au championnat puisqu’elle n’a pas encore embarqué de passagers.

Dimanche, après une course de Formule VW et une procédure de départ accélérée, le départ des 8 heures de course sera donné à 9h55. Et voir l’imposant peloton d’une centaine de VW Fun Cup s’élancer sera une fois encore un spectacle impressionnant.
