TEAM WRT WINS ACO SUSTAINABLE ENDURANCE AWARD PRESENTED BY DHL

26/08/2021

The ACO, the FIA WEC and DHL are recognising sustainable efforts and initiatives with the newly created ACO Sustainability Endurance Award, which Team WRT proudly won last week on Le Mans.

Two aspects were considered in the selection of the winner: "Low Carbon Impact", which looks at the reduction of CO2 emissions related to the transport of materials and people, and logistics from the garages to the race tracks.

Secondly, "Positive Innovation", which recognises the contribution, participation, and development of innovative social or environmental initiatives that create a positive impact and added value for their local communities.

Team WRT is taking a more pro-active approach in committing to its social corporate responsibility by going far beyond motor racing. The Belgian squad is happy and proud to associate itself with several projects, one of them being the “Drive Fast, Act Faster“ campaign.

“Drive Fast, Act Faster“ is initiated by Ferdinand Habsburg and Green Future Project to address sustainability and to bring ‘carbon neutral’ racing in the motorsport world. The vision is for “Drive Fast, Act Faster” to gain traction among other teams and championships, and for them to collectively reshape the future of motorsport, as an industry response to the reality of the climate crisis.

Ferdinand Habsburg:
“Racing has taken me around the world, and lately I began to realise that I have to take more responsibility and set out other goals than just winning and driving to the limit. We see a lot of series moving towards electric powertrains nowadays, but the majority of the motorsport community is still passionate about combustion engines. This is something that’s strongly ingrained in the DNA of motorsport. If we continue with our wasteful behaviours, it will lead to a point where we’ll have no choice but to use electric engines, unless we are able to turn our petrol-powered motorsport into a more sustainable form. This could save the future of motorsport as we know it, allowing the next generations to have the privilege to enjoy motor racing as much as we do today.”

Vincent Vosse: “Motorsports, as part of the automotive world, is victim of a paradox: it is seen as part of the problem, while in reality, as an engine of innovation, it is one of the sectors that has progressed most towards a cleaner, safer and more conscious society. Still, concerns surrounding climate change are rising. Like everybody, motorsports can contribute more and faster by adapting the way we do racing and business, adopting better practices and at first compensating the impact of our activities. This is why all of us at Team WRT are particularly happy to support and to be involved in as from this year initiatives at improving sustainability that have originated from the world of motor racing itself.”
