THE FIA GT WORLD CUP: A POSITIVE OUTCOME FOR TEAM WRT IN MACAU

17/11/2019

It was a typical Macau weekend for Team WRT, with the inevitable combination of satisfaction and frustration that racing in the uncomparable street circuit of Guia always leave. In the FIA GT World Cup, the Audi R8 LMS followed by the Belgian squad proved competitive, but Dries Vanthoor on the car entered by Audi Sport Team WRT saw his efforts ruined by first lap misfortune in the Qualifying Race, while Charles Weerts completed a faultless and impressive debut at Macau, clinching a P7 as best result.

In the Main Race, starting from the back of the grid, Dries Vanthoor climbed back as many positions as possible, fighting hard with some opponents, to eventually finish eighth. Charles Weerts had a more difficult race, being stuck a long time behind Imperatori and losing some positions to eventually crossing the line in P12.

Dries Vanthoor: “It was a decent weekend, where the highest moment, for sure, was qualifying. Unfortunately, Race 1 was short. Today, despite the bad position in the grid, we had a good race, and we could finish on a positive note.”

Charles Weerts: “If we look at the overall picture, it was a good weekend for us, and I am happy of my first time here in Macau, increasing the pace and improving throughout the sessions. I had a good qualifying, taking P10, and in the first race, I could step up my game, with really good pace and finishing 7th. The Main Race was tougher, with a contact with one of the BMW and getting stuck twice at Lisboa, but still very happy with the potential shown.”
