TITLE GLORY FOR TEAM WRT IN VALENCIA: DRAMATIC FINALE CROWNS #32 SPRINT CHAMPIONS, WITH TRIPLE PODIUM INCLUDING VICTORY IN THE SILVER CUP FOR #30

21/09/2025

Team WRT concluded the 2025 GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup on a high at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, securing both Drivers’ and Teams’ titles in the Sprint Cup. The Skechers branded BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Charles Weerts and Kelvin van der Linde clinched victory in the final race of the season to claim their first Sprint title together, the fourth one for Charles Weerts, while the Belgian squad added an 11th Teams’ Sprint crown to its record. In Silver Cup, the #30 BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Gilles Stadsbader and Matisse Lismont delivered a perfect weekend with victory in race one and a podium finish in race two, underlining the strength of WRT’s young line-up. The #777 car, competing in the Gold Cup under the AlManar Racing by WRT banner, completed a strong campaign with P4 and P2 class finishes. Team WRT also celebrated victory in the Pit Stop Challenge, with the #30 crew winning the final round, and the #32 crew crowned champions across the full 2025 Sprint Cup season for their consistently exceptional work in the pit lane.

RACE 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • #30: Perfect execution by Gilles Stadsbader and Matisse Lismont as they win the Silver Cup class. Third at the flag, they then benefited from a post-race drive-through penalty for both leading cars, who improved under yellow flag conditions. Gilles Stadsbader and Matisse Lismont ultimately finish 5th overall.
  • #32: Disaster struck at turn one when another car made contact, forcing Weerts to retire from the race. A zero-point-scoring result meant the title would be decided in race two, with six crews still mathematically in contention.
  • #777: The Gold Cup car of Klingmann and Al Zubair claimed P4 in class, staying in the fight throughout and gaining valuable points for their overall Gold Cup championship bid.

RACE 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • #30: Lismont and Stadsbader continued their form with another standout performance, finishing P3 in Silver Cup and securing their second podium of the weekend.
  • #32: In a pressure-filled final race, Charles Weerts and Kelvin van der Linde delivered the perfect response. Starting from fourth, the pair never looked back. Their race win secured the Sprint Cup Drivers' title, the 7th Drivers’ title in Sprint for Team WRT, and the 11th Teams’ crown.
  • #777: The AlManar by WRT entry finished P2 in Gold Cup, capping off a consistent season with another strong showing.

LOOKING AHEAD

Next up for Team WRT is a return to the FIA World Endurance Championship with the 6 Hours of Fuji on Sunday, September 28th. The team will enter its usual four-car line-up, two Hypercars and two LMGT3 entries, as the championship continues into its final stretch.

Vincent VOSSE, Team Principal Team WRT: “What can I say? A real rollercoaster of a weekend but an incredible one. From the frustration after qualifying and yesterday’s race, to coming back and winning today, it feels amazing. It was an outstanding team effort. Once again, the guys in the pit lane proved just how good they are: fastest pit stop overall, and securing the Pit Stop Challenge championship is just fantastic. On top of that, having podiums in all categories and fighting for wins in each class is exceptional. This is our first title with BMW, and we are very proud of it. A huge thank you to everyone! This is a truly well-deserved team trophy. Now it's time to focus on Fuji!”

Matisse LISMONT, driver #30: "Very positive weekend! First Sprint weekend with Team WRT. It was a kind of a comeback as I haven't raced in Sprint since the first two races of the season, albeit with a different team. Two podiums, one P1 and one P3. I couldn't have wished for a better weekend to be honest! Thank you, Team WRT!”

Gilles STADSBADER, driver #30: "Very good weekend. Super happy to finish the Sprint season on a high. Definitely more than expected coming into the weekend. I’m super happy with our 1st place and 3rd place. We did our maximum!”

Kelvin VAN DER LINDE, driver #32: “Very dramatic finale weekend, just as we’ve come to expect! Massive lows on Saturday and massive highs on Sunday. I think as a team, Charles and I have really grown. We’ve pushed each other to get the most out of ourselves and constantly challenged one another. He really helped me get used to the BMW and showed me very openly how to drive it quickly. I’m very thankful for that. In the end, it helped both of us to deliver results. Team WRT won us this championship at the pit stops. This championship is heavily influenced by pit stop performance, and on the weekends where we couldn’t win outright, we were incredibly fast in the pits and made the difference there. So, a huge thanks to the team!"

Charles WEERTS, driver #32:“Overall, it was quite a tricky weekend for us, especially Saturday, which was tough. We struggled in qualifying and then got hit on the first lap. It was quite a big hit. I was pretty sore all day and night, so I didn’t get the best rest. But Kelvin was incredible today. He did an amazing job in qualifying, and the race he drove super well. I’m speechless. Just incredible. The whole team was outstanding at the pit stop as always. I just had to bring the car home. I had to push through the pain, but for the championship, I can always dig deeper. Congrats to our crew too, they really deserve this! We made no mistakes and kept scoring points. I’m super happy to win a 4th Sprint Cup title, and the first one with BMW. Thanks to Kelvin, my team, and BMW for an incredible season!”.

Jens KLINGMANN, driver #777: “Last Sprint race. We started the weekend really strong and had great pace all the way through. Only a P2. I say ’only’ because with the pace and the performance from everyone, it felt like we could have taken the win today, but sometimes everything just has to come together. I’m super proud. The way we work together, as a team and as a driver pairing, it is so much fun, and we are so efficient now, operating at such a high level. It feels like we deserved more today, but we’ll take the P2 and focus on the final round in Barcelona. I can’t wait, because I’m sure we’ll have a great package there as well!”

Al Faisal AL ZUBAIR, driver #777: “Great weekend. A mistake on my part at the pitstop during race one messing up the pit stop. Besides that, the car felt amazing all weekend! P2 today is something we should be happy with. Jens did an amazing job which made it easier for us. Let’s go to Barcelona to get a few more trophies.”
