DOMINANT WEEKEND FOR TEAM WRT AT MAGNY-COURS: THRILLING VICTORY AND DOUBLE PODIUM SET THE STAGE FOR FANATEC GT SPRINT CUP TITLE SHOWDOWN

Magny-Cours, round four of the 2024 Sprint Cup – Team WRT delivered a spectacular performance during the Fanatec GT weekend, with fireworks both on and off the track. The #32 BMW M4 GT3 crew of Dries Vanthoor and Charles Weerts showcased incredible pace, securing a stunning victory on Saturday night, and a podium on Sunday. Despite facing tough competition, Calan Williams and Sam De Haan managed smart race strategies, adding a vital Silver Cup podium finish to their previous achievements.

Race 1 Highlights:

• Victory under the lights: Car #32 charged from P6 to take the win as the Magny-Cours circuit was illuminated by fireworks.

• Pitstop Challenge: New stellar performance from Team WRT crews setting the fastest pitstop time of all competitors.

Race 2 Highlights:

• Strong comeback: Vanthoor and Weerts continued their momentum, climbing from eighth on the grid to finish second.

• Silver Cup performance: De Haan and Williams scored a 7th podium in eight races, marking a crucial step towards the championship title fight.

Team WRT heads to Monza for the penultimate round of the Endurance Cup followed by Barcelona for the finale of the Sprint Cup leading the overall Fanatec GT Series (Team and Drivers’), the overall Sprint Cup series (Team and Drivers’) and the Silver class Sprint Cup standings (Team and Drivers). Meanwhile, the FIA WEC Hypercar and LMGT3 crews are flying to Austin, Texas for the sixth round of the championship, scheduled for next weekend.

The pit stops were also extremely strong again – and unsurprisingly, we won the Pitstop Challenge. In addition, we managed to get a podium in the Silver Cup. Charles WEERTS, driver #32: "We can be very satisfied with the result this weekend. Of course, we would have preferred to win on the track on Saturday, but in the end, the points count. Many thanks to the team, BMW M Motorsport, and Dries for a great job! The #48 is relentless and gave us a tough fight. We will continue this in Barcelona at the finale. If it turns out the same way there as it did here and we defend our two-point lead, I'll be happy."

Dries VANTHOOR, driver #32: "A win and a second place – that was a good weekend for us. Unfortunately, our competitors for the title also had a strong weekend, so we will carry the fight to the finale in Barcelona. It's going to be very exciting, but we are doing everything we can to defend our narrow lead there."

Sam DE HAAN, driver #30: "Unfortunately for race 2, I had a fairly simple stint as I was behind the safety car for most of it! But with a crew’s strong pit stop and Calan’s solid stint, we made it to the podium. Hopefully, we can hit the ground running in Barcelona and seal the Silver championship with a pair of good results.”

Calan WILLIAMS, driver #30: “Managed to get a podium in the Silver Cup which was a good way to end the weekend, as it’s been a tough one for us! The crew did a mega pit stop as per usual, and the car ran well which enabled us to fight through the field with good pace. We’ll keep working hard ahead of the final round at Barcelona.”
