TCR EUROPE: TEAM WRT TO BARCELONA ROUND WITH LIGHTER CARS AND GREATER HOPES!

19/09/2019

The TCR Europe is back to action after the summer break and starts the final stretch of the season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, before the grand-finale at Monza.

Both Santiago Urrutia and Max Potty are determined to do well in the home of the Spanish Grand Prix and to finish the season on a high, capitalising on the potential and performance shown so far.

Urrutia and Potty, who defend the colours of Team WRT with different cars (Audi RS 3 LMS and Volkswagen Golf GTI, respectively) have already taken podium finishes, but have been also faced in recent rounds with the numerous race incidents that characterise a series with such a competitive level and large grids.

Prospects look more promising ahead of Barcelona, as both the Audi and the VW will benefit from a compensation weight reduction, of 30 and 50 kgs, respectively, with regard to the last round at Oschersleben. This should not only impact positively on the performances of the car, but it should also allow Santi and Max to qualify better and avoid the many incidents always occurring in the middle of the group.

The very technical track of Barcelona is in, any case, the perfect stage for them to showcase their talent and launch their final assault to the TCR Europe and the TCR Benelux, as the event is also valid towards the three-country series…

Santiago Urrutia: "The long break allowed me to go back to Uruguay and it was nice to spend time with family and friends. I trained a lot physically and even did some karting. I haven’t raced in Barcelona in the last few years, but it is a track I like very much and that should suit well the Audi, as it includes two long straights. We reached a good level of performance in the last round in Germany and the team has continued working during the summer. We’ll do the utmost to set up the car quickly, in order to qualify well, which is essential in a series like this, where everything can happen and it does!”

Maxime Potty:I obviously want to be finishing the season in style. We had our stroke of bad luck in previous events, and I hope it is over. Since Oschersleben, the minimum weight of the Golf GTI TCR has also been revised and we will start 50 kilograms lighter this weekend. That will make a big difference! My main target is a podium place. I want to enjoy myself and make an impression with some good results. With Jean-François Hemroulle to coach me and the entire Team WRT around me, I will be in an ideal position at Barcelona. I am ready for the fight!”
