About ESG

Introduction

Team WRT is taking a more pro-active approach in committing to its social corporate responsibility by going far beyond motor racing. We are happy and proud to associate ourselves with several projects.

“Drive Fast, Act Faster”

In 2021, WRT’s LPM2 program collaborated with the “Drive Fast, Act Faster” Campaign helping to protect 25 acres of tropical Amazonian Rainforest - equal to 400 tennis courts. As a result, we compensated 1125 tons of CO2 last year.

“Drive Fast, Act Faster” is a campaign initiated by Ferdinand Habsburg and Green Future Project in a program intended to bring 'carbon neutral' racing to the teams and to persuade others in the sport to follow that lead. The goal is to shift the motorsport industry to support one of the world’s most urgent climate projects and biodiverse regions.

This year we increased our support by funding the purchase and protection of 30 acres of rainforest to expand the Narupa Reserve- gradually increasing our contribution to climate action year by year.

In 2021 we set off 1.899 tons of CO2 which is the equivalent of the CO2 emission of our race cars in our LMP2 program. For 2022 we are committed to do the same so we become a carbon neutral race team for our LMP2 Program.

Ferdinand Habsburg: “We see a lot of series moving towards electric powertrains nowadays, but the majority of the motorsport community is still passionate about combustion engines. This is something that’s strongly ingrained in the DNA of motorsport. If we continue with our wasteful behaviours, it will lead to a point where we’ll have no choice but to use electric engines, unless we are able to turn our petrol-powered motorsport into a more sustainable form. This could save the future of motorsport as we know it, allowing the next generations to have the privilege to enjoy motor racing as much as we do today.”

Weerts personal computer

Despite Belgium being one of the wealthiest countries 1 child out of 6 lives in poverty.

Poverty impacts health, social exclusion and education heavily. Teachers report the increasing gap for students to have adequate access to an electronic device at home for learning purposes. The COVID pandemic has accelerated the importance of online learning, increasing the digital gap even more.

Weerts Personal Computers for Education (WPC) is a non-profit organization created to make as many functional laptops as possible available to children mainly between 10 and 14 years. Since 2021 WRT and its head company Weerts Group we are encouraging digital inclusion by donating 1.000 laptops per year to children living in a vulnerable family situation. Our partner Proximus provides mobile coverage wherever this is required.
